Sailing with Alec and Zeke

Sailing with Alec and Zeke

Alec and Zeke checked in the other day. They have been sailing around the east coast warmer atlantic waters this winter and spring. Great to hear from you guys. Way to seek out adventure.
Here is their update

We bought an old van on New Years Eve in NH. Loaded it up and left new years day from leah's house (great party) and drove down to Florida in search of a used sailboat. After a week of driving around we located a sound vessel that floated and had sex appeal. We closed on the boat on the 19th, and on the 20th the registration for the van expired, but we sold it the next day for a handsome profit.

We sailed down the west coast of florida under full iron sail (no wind - motored) and made it to Key West, which I will tell you is overflowing with middle aged derelicts. From there we made it up to Key Largo, then sailed across the Gulf Stream (got caught in rough weather, totally brutal, literally had to lash ourselves to the boat) to the Bahamas (spearfishing was unreal). From there we hit the Turks and Caicos, then the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, and some of the Leeward islands. A few weeks ago we turned around and sailed back, and are now in the Chesapeake Bay. We sailed straight from Abaco Island in the Bahamas to North Carolina, 5 days at sea, but we rode the Gulf Stream which increased our speed and even provided us with a huge dolphin fish that we caught hand lining just like the Old Man and the Sea.

The legendary King (Jed "Hello, do you know me?!" Yeiser) joined us in the Dominican Republic and did an epic sail across the Mona passage to Puerto Rico, all the way to the east coast. While he was aboard we caught a lot of fish, saw some whales, and were mostly nude. During his seven days aboard we logged approximately 900 miles. Ask him about the Hard Rock Café in San Juan.

Currently we are working our way north, trying to sell the boat and not kill each other; crew always welcome, unless your name begins with "Joe" and ends in "y Swensson." This does not apply if you subsitute “Barb” into the aforementioned name.

Big squall approaching, time to batten down the hatches. We will assemble team darrell this fall and come back to wreck campus.

-Alec

PS The name of the boat is Slayride.

Team Banquet
  by Jane, May 1, 2009

Last night didn't turn out to be the blue skies, 80 degree weather we had hoped for, but nonetheless, with the threat of rain and a slight nip in the air, we held the BBQ anyway. We played whiffle ball, golf, soccer, ate burgers and junk and thoroughly enjoyed the good company.

We want to once again thank Peter and Ron and the rest of the Snow Bowl staff for all they provide us throughout the winter. We couldn't accomplish what we accomplish without them. We also want to thank Howard for the extra help he so willingly gives on the hill.

Congrats to the seniors: Mattie, Tucker and Billy. Thanks to all of you for the remarkable effort you put into your four years as Middlebury skiers. You'll be greatly missed.

As for the awards, hard to choose but well deserved by these three skiers. Congrats again.

MVP: Mattie Ford
Randi Stromstad Award: Nicole Dvorak
Bubba Kenney: Bobby Poehling

Below are some pics from the evening.
