Hello everyone! Welcome to summer, when you will be receiving updates from
us skiers about our adventures every week (hopefully). I realize the summer is young, but
that doesn’t leave me with nothing to write about as I am filled with excitement about
the great times ahead. I’m currently drinking in the sun on a deck in Sun Valley, Idaho,
which is where I will be spending the summer. After being in Vermont for my entire life,
it is quite the experience being out here, and knowing that I will continue to be here for
the rest of the summer.
My lovely teammates Annie and Danny were kind enough to pick me up in Boise
and drive me across the very long, very straight valleys to Ketchum (thanks again you
guys!) during which I enjoyed looking upon the foreign western landscape. Hiking up
Bald Mountain with Danny the next day was quite the experience; I was reminded of the
added difficulty that comes with altitude, and steeper inclines. Rollerskiing on a bike trail
was also a new and welcome occurrence that I look forward to doing more of. Hearing
the soft, rhythmic thunder of a western ‘thunderstorm’ was also very interesting, as it was
quite soothing, and drastically different from the loud, scary cracks of thunder you hear
out east.
Overall, I have already had a few awesome days here in Idaho and am looking
forward to many more of them. The cool nights, few bugs, and blue skies sure make
things great. This eastern boy is officially getting settled into the west. Also, there are
going to be quite a few of us Middlebury skiers out here for the summer, so expect to
hear some more updates from the fabulous Sun Valley!
